Riding aboard Truck 8 are the three Fire Safety Poster winners from City wide Poster Contest held among 3rd Grade students in the City of El Cajon school district. They asked to draw a poster of their “home escape” plan. As part of their prizes the three top winners were invited to ride in the 2007 Mother Goose Parade with members of the El Cajon Fire Department.

As part of the opening ceremonies for the dedication of the new El Cajon Fire Station 8, members of the Viejas Fire Department provided the El Cajon Fire Department with a check donation in the amount of $2,200 toward framing of photographs for the walls of the new fire station on Madison Avenue. Fire Safety Educator of the Year Award

On July 18, 2007 the San Diego County Fire Chief’s Association awarded El Cajon Fire’s Safety Educator Monica Zech the Fire & Life Safety Educator of the Year Award for 2007. This honor recognized Monica for her dedication to educating the public in injury prevention, not only in El Cajon, but throughout the County through lectures and through TV/radio/print media.

Rescue dogs and singer

At the Annual Fire Open House Safety & Career Fair held on October 4, 2008, El Cajon Fire officially welcomed their two new Seach and Rescue Canines “Hattie and Icon” during a noon ceremony. Another special guest was County Singer Sharmain who sang one of her hit songs called “Hurricane” to honor the dogs and their handlers just back from rescue efforts for Hurricane Rita back east. Pictured (left to right) is Search and Rescue Canine handler El Cajon Fire Engineer Marco Maldanado and his canine “Hattie”, County Singer Sharmain, and Search & Rescue Canine handler Fire Captain Steve Swaney and his canine “Icon.” Thousands attended this annual community event. The next Open House is scheduled for October 10, 2009.

Safely Surrendered Baby Program

On May 2, 2008 an official ceremony officially announced that San Diego County Fire Stations are declared a Safe Surrender sites where young parents can bring their newborn baby should they feel they cannot raise the child properly with no questions asked. El Cajon Fire was a part of the ceremony, pictured here (L to R) El Cajon Fire Chief Mike Scott and El Cajon Fire Division Chief Rick Sitta.
