At 2:40 a.m. this morning El Cajon Fire crews responded to reports of a structure fire at 1105 Broadway. Upon arrival crews found Broadway Tire, Brake and Auto Services fully involved and a 2nd Alarm was issued. It took firefighters about 50 minutes to knock down the blaze and the business is considered a total loss. About 35 firefighters were on scene and there were no reported injuries.
Destroyed in the fire were eight vehicles, a showroom, smog check equipment, tools and their inventory of tires. Quick action by firefighters kept the fire from damaging a nearby check cashing business. Overall damage has been estimated at $760,000. ($162,000 structure, and $600,000 for contents.) The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
