Q: I received a weed abatement notice. Who should I call?

A: Call Fire Prevention Services at 619-562-1058. They will guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

Q: I have a set of fire-related plans to submit. Where do I start?

A: The Building/Fire Safety Division is at City Hall, 3rd floor, 200 E. Main St., El Cajon. All plans start and end with the Building/Fire Safety Division. Your plans will be routed to all relevant City departments. Their telephone number is 619-441-1726.

Q: I need a Knox box or switch. Where do I go?

A: Come to the El Cajon Fire Department headquarters at 100 E. Lexington Ave., El Cajon. We will review your plans and issue you the official Knox application. Once you have the box or switch installed call 619-441-1618 and we’ll conduct a function test. The fee for the entire process is $53.00, made payable to the City of El Cajon.

Q: I have an electric gate at my property. What emergency access components do I need?

A: All new electric gates for apartments, condominiums, and commercial businesses shall have both a Knox override switch and a strobe sensor. The El Cajon Fire Department has the specifications and paperwork you will need for your project. Call 619-441-1618 for details.

Q: I need a copy of a report. Where do I start?

A: Call 619-441-1619. There are some requirements that have to be met and we’ll be happy to guide you through the process.

Q: I would like to schedule a tour of a fire station. Who do I call?

A: Call 619-441-1619 for scheduling. Please note that station tours fill up quickly so call well in advance of your desired tour date.

Q: I'd like a safety lecture for my class or group, who do I call?
