Safely Surrendered Baby Program
El Cajon Fire Department has joined fire agencies from throughout San Diego County to become a designated site for the Safely Surrendered Baby program. The purpose of the law is to encourage parents to bring unwanted infants, up to three days old, to reception centers such as hospitals or fire stations, rather than abandon them in dumpsters or bushes. No names are required and the parent(s) will not be subject to prosecution for child abandonment.

18th Heartland Fire Academy Graduates
Congratulations to the graduating class of the 18th Heartland Fire Academy. Twenty-two young men graduated on April 13, 2008 at ceremonies held at the Ronald Reagan Community Center. This class consisted of paid firefighters and reserve status firefighters for El Cajon, Mt. Laguna and Alpine Fire Departments and the San Miguel Fire District and college enrollment students from Miramar College.

Collision Forces Semi Into Backyard Pool - Fund Set-Up For Victim's Family
An El Cajon man was fatally injured Monday morning when a collision caused a semi to plow into an oncoming vehicle, then through a fence into a backyard swimming pool being cleaned by the homeowner. The man's two-year-old daughter, who was nearby, was unharmed.

Fatal Trolley crash
March 14, 2008 -- Just before 12 noon today, at 11:53 a.m., a white pickup truck traveling eastbound on Billy Mitchell Drive collided with a south bound trolley at the Billy Mitchell crossing near Marshall. The solo elderly female driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene by El Cajon Firefighter-Paramedics. There were no injuries reported to passengers onboard the trolley.

Three-Alarm Fire At Discount Store In El Cajon
Damage is estimated at $2 million dollars in a Feb. 27th fire at Allen's 98 Cents Discount Store in the 700-block of East Main Street. One firefighter was taken to a hospital with a hand injury. No one was reported to be in the store at the time of the fire. The fire is now under investigation.
